What is Ayahuasca? Why I chose to do it…

December 26, 2017 10

There comes a time in one’s life when she might ponder.. Is this all there is to life?? For me, that time came over two years ago, when I was 30 years old. I had a great career as a dental hygienist that enabled me to buy my very own home and allowed me to travel. I had just started teaching yoga, which is my passion. It was because of yoga that I learned how to start truly loving myself so I wanted to share that gift with others. At that time, life was pretty damn amazing!

One would normally say that they could live like this for a very long time and be content. But for me, I couldn’t help but wonder… There HAS to be more to life. As crazy as it sounds, at that moment I felt like I had reached a plateau. Everything was just great, moving right along.. but okay.. so what’s next?? I guess what I wanted wasn’t “just great” but I wanted EXTRAORDINARY! Was I asking for too much? Was I overreaching? …I don’t think so! It’s never too much if you’re willing to put in the effort.

So I put it out there to the universe that I was looking for more out of life. I was trying to find the answer as to what my purpose HERE is. Coincidently, a group of friends who were going to Peru to drink Ayahuasca were sent to me. It was as if the universe knew exactly what I needed. So I asked these new friends questions about my curiosities of this plant medicine and what it’s supposed to do to you.

Ayahuasca is a vine of the jungle which grows in the entire Amazonia, from Colombia to Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. It is known and respected by all indigenous people there as a plant healer or “teacher plant” and represents the basis of their traditional medicines. When you drink this tea during an Ayahuasca ceremony, it may take you on a 4-8 hour journey back into your childhood memories. Some may also have visions of nature, of healers, or more than likely of beautiful colored patterns as if you were looking into a kaleidoscope. They say that after you drink this tea, the brew offers you an opportunity to look at your past issues or traumas in a new light. For example, you would be able to accept your previous problems and move forward in a more positive manner. The drawback to all of this is that you have to be willing to puke your guts out, also known as “purging.” Along with the vomiting, you could expect to purge in all different forms. You may have to use the restroom (#1 and/or #2), laugh, cry, and even end the night kicking and screaming depending on what visions you had during your ceremony. But when I learned that the medicine could possibly show me how to live my fullest life, I was SOLD. SIGN ME UP!

Before diving head first into the jungle to work with this plant medicine, my new group of friends, Jenn, Ken, Steven and I decided we would make vision boards to set goals for our future. I was so grateful to have a group of friends who were on the same path of searching for spiritual growth.

Along with making a vision board, I also wrote down my intentions for Ayahuasca.
One of my intentions was how was I going to find my “life partner.” I remember reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne many years ago and she said to list the characteristics of your ideal partner, so I decided to do this. I wrote my very own Love List describing my “perfect” man.

Did I really think that I was going to be lucky enough to have this man in my lifetime?? Hmm.. I’m a bit skeptical, but I do think it’s possible. (If you’re in the same boat and haven’t been fortunate enough to find your better half, I think you should definitely do this as well. It doesn’t hurt to try.)

My intentions were clear and I was ready to dive deeper into my heart and discover my TRUE self. Join me next week as I begin my Journey with Ayahuasca!

You inspire me in more ways than one! Beautifully written! I can’t wait to read more

First!
Your dedicated effort shows desire which is definitely heard by the universe. It’s only a matter of time for you to receive answer! What you seek is seeking you. All physical matter is bound to the universal law! Sneak some ayahuasca back for me please.
